Bring ‘A Friend’ to Your School
I believe my book can be a valuable and inspiring resource in the classroom, offering Gen Z students insight into the obstacles I faced growing up and how they might relate this to their own lives. Social isolation, bullying, and friendship take a major part at some point in our lives.
Back in the 1980s, bullying was something we were expected to handle on our own. For me, it was mostly verbal—insults, teasing, and being excluded from groups. The hallways, classrooms, and even the playground weren’t safe spaces. Gossip spread like wildfire, and name-calling was constant. Teachers would often overhear it but usually didn’t intervene. They viewed it as just part of growing up. I can’t count how many times I was told to “toughen up” or that it was just “kids being kids.” Honestly, there weren’t any real tools or support systems to help us deal with it. You either ignored it, fought back, or just endured it.
My story can help teenagers better understand bullying, social isolation, disability, and depression. These challenges have continued into my adult life, affecting my experiences in the workplace and various social settings as I struggled to form lasting connections.
I am also developing a platform here, and I would be delighted to feature students’ feedback, highlighting how the book could positively influence their growth. Stay tuned!
My book will be available in all classrooms for reading in middle schools, high schools, and universities worldwide.
